Entre la vie et la mort
Diane Guyot de Saint Michel

Is there a more public space than the hospital? It's where we're born, where we die, between life and death, where we're healed, repaired. No matter what anyone says, it's a place where we'll pop in. In emergencies, sore in every way, we want results, images. In the midst of this, infiltrated between the patient's pain and the medical, I take note of the important words exchanged and figure this singular human vis-à-vis. The intensive care unit, in the middle of the Covid period, is out of sight. Already a restricted area, it becomes a confined space within a confinement. Dressed in all the protective gear, I become unrecognizable, like the rest of the team. In this exceptional in camera setting, where snacks and blood bags, fear of the virus and life-saving humor mingle, I capture breaths, words, objects and gestures.Entre la vie et la mort is the drawn chronicle of these two spaces that make up this elusive landscape, or almost.
